Maurice Sendak is a child of Holocaust Survivors, a Yiddish speaker with a strong connection to his Jewish identity and the homeland of Israel. Many believe that his tales, some as graphic and frightening as a Brothers Grimm story yet all sharing a happy ending of peace and serenity, are creative representations of Israel's history.
Indeed, it is the playful, youthful Jews who left a land of tyranny and came to a wild country, taming it with their beliefs and their wild energy.
I do not know. I do know, however, that I will be first on line to see the latest adaptation of this powerful story.
