Viva La "The Breslin": Infidel Cooking Comes Alive

Artists 4 Israel's Infidel Cooking program gets a big show of "wow, this is timely" by reports regarding The Breslin, a brand new bar just opened in the Ace Hotel by owners of, among other places, The Spotted Pig.

According to reports in both The New York Observer and Gothamist the bar sits across from the Masjid Ar-Rahman mosque where they are none too happy about a booze joint being opened up near them. This has, of course, pitted good old fashioned American bravado vs. thinly veiled Muslim threats of terrorism.

Spotted Pig owner (co-owner of The Breslin) Ken Friedman responded to the mosque's request that they move with a our-colors-don't-run-esque "This is the United States of America and we’ll do whatever the fuck we want." The not-so-moderate Muslims replies back that they couldn't control the behavior of "a few bad eggs"; i.e., we could get a brick through our window.'

Of course, in good new fashion American capitulation, The Breslin then agreed to put curtains over its windows to shield the devout from the de-drunk. The orthodox from the on the rocks? The Islamists from the Imbibeists?

This is no laughing matter. This is a very real case of creeping Sharia. And, as Artists, we deplore anything that threatens liquor!

Just in case you didn't know, the best part of these stories come when you read the comments. Here is a great line from an individual who calls him/herself Hypatia: "The curtain will also protect the Breslin's customers from the off-putting sight of meaty haunches hoisted into the air five times a day. So maybe it's got an upside."
